c.. 1900  — The things people got up to in our area a hundred years ago....an itinerant bear-keeper with a dancing bear wearing a muzzle, performing in nearby Arundel.  The man carries small trumpet used to announce his arrival to spectators.  It is said that dancing bears were a common sight in the town until about 1914.    In which case, did they also come to Findon?  (I do sometimes wonder if it was an assistant who would dress up in a bear skin for the performance to procure money).
