Great Findon Sheep Fair

Watercolour of the Great Findon Sheep Fair on Nepcote Green by Charles William Taylor, Findon Artist, 1878-1960. Here's another little story....Celia Tye who lived at St. Monicas, 57 High Street in Findon when I first moved here, told me that her father, Mr. Bulger, became friendly with Charles Taylor following a chance meeting at Broadwater Church when Charles was unwell. Mr. Bulger assisted Charles to his home (in spite of suffering from glaucoma himself) and they became friends.
He was rewarded by being bequeathed three watercolours (one is shown above) and
three engravings when Charles died (much to the consternation of Charles'
relatives). He had no children. |
