THIS IS FINDON VILLAGE ― These Findon Chronicles are created by Valerie Martin and are progressively growing to be the only record of life around Findon, West Sussex, England. Everyday stories about real people..... in fact, a potted history of the village. The topics today, are the history of tomorrow.
BENJAMIN HALL AND THE KAISER

Photograph of Benjamin Hall taken by a photographer in Worthing.

At the beginning of September 2011
I received an email from Gareth Parsons. He had recently discovered that one
of his ancestors, Benjamin Hall, had been a jockey and he suspected he
operated in this capacity from Nepcote Lodge Stables around the 1890s.
Benjamin had a Jockey Licence issued to him in January 1897 stating that he
resided at the stables until the turn of the century.
There is also a plaque among the memorabilia with a horseshoe on it with the inscription 'Dollar II' and I think I can recall having a photograph of a horse by this name at Nepcote Lodge Stables. Unfortunately, I cannot remember where this was, nor anything about it.

An old sketch of Benjamin Hall (artist unknown).
Benjamin's colours and pattern of the riding colours apparently match that of William Halsey's picture. There is a story that Benjamin also had a licence in Berlin and had a Jockey Licence for 1895 in Berlin.
Rumour has it had he may have ridden the Kaiser's horse and who would now like to dispute the fact.
