THIS IS FINDON VILLAGE ― These Findon Chronicles are created by Valerie Martin and are progressively growing to be the only record of life around Findon, West Sussex, England. Everyday stories about real people..... in fact, a potted history of the village. The topics today, are the history of tomorrow.
SCHOOLDAYS IN FINDON
— the 1950s
Copyright Valerie Martin 2011
In September 2011 I heard from Susan Robinson with some interesting photographs appertaining to the school in Findon.....
"Dear Valerie.....Attached is a picture of my Father Richard John (known as
Jack) Drake on duty in the Square sometime between 1951 and 1954.
Despite lots of research I am unable to find the date we moved to Findon. I
believe it could have been springtime in 1951. We left just before I was 10
years old in May 1954.
I have an Autograph book with entries set out below, maybe some of these were
written by teachers or helpers at school:-
26/02/51 G F Calcutt
07/03/51 Mrs Cannon
13/03/51 A Wallis
Mrs Scott
Oct 51 C A Phillimore who I believe was the infant teacher
Feb 54 E F Sheppard
25/02/54 E F Alexander - Head Mistress
05/03/54 H M Shadwick
Fellow pupils:-
Jennifer Duff
Ann
Margaret Long
Brenda Wilkinson
Christine Theocharidis

I also attach a class photograph I am fifth from the right in the middle row,
again not sure of the date but Margaret Long and Brenda Wilkinson are there.
There are other people whose names I recall. It would be interesting to see if
anyone in the photograph remembers me and fellow classmates.
