At the beginning of April 2011 I received the following photograph from Rendell Williams presenting me with a mystery....

"Dear Valerie...... Sorry to trouble you. I recently bought the postcard shown in the attachment, which depicts a bookie (a most unusual subject for a card) at "Michel Grove Sports, August 1911".

I assume the Sports were not held at the ruins of Michel Grove House and the racing stables - such an isolated spot!

Were they held at Findon?

The card was produced by Edward Bex (Edwards) of Worthing.
Looking forward to your reply,
Many thanks,
Rendel Williams".

I have not previously come across a photograph such as this.    I just love the punters and the bookies.

A hundred years ago, there were still racing stables at Michelgrove in August 1911 and I can only guess that perhaps some sort of sports were held involving horses and betting in 1911.

There is a bit of a puzzle with the bare legs and white shoes .... hardly riding gear.
