THE FINDON BAKERY

Copyright Valerie Martin 2011

The village bakery is long gone and only memories remain in the form of early photographs.    The bakery once stood on the site of the parade of shops at the junction of Cross Lane and Nepcote Lane .... and opposite the forge (now John Henry's bar).     Names of the bakers and dates of occupation are, unfortunately, sketchy.

The date is unsure but I would put it at early 1900s.

The name of "Curtis" can be seen on the double doors of the bakery in the above two photographs.

Jack Harris was the baker at a later date.    He had one son named Reg but he did not wish to continue with the bakery after his father retired and so they sold up and moved
4-miles south to Worthing.

Date unsure..... maybe 1930s?

The same scene.
