The 12 inch Deep Snow in Findon before Christmas 2010
Copyright Valerie Martin 2010
A surprising mighty snowfall caught us all out when it came down overnight at the beginning of December 2010 and brought Findon to a complete standstill.
I made it to Cissbury Ring with the girls and we were tracking the foot prints of Mr. Fox crossing the Prehistoric Track (the one lower than the Tank Road) when we took the above photograph. I am in the process of saying "There he is!"
STUPIDITY IN THE SNOW...... I've never seen this before.... but there is always a first. A Land Rover caught on camera towing two sledges with children along the road in Findon ...... here they go heading for the A24.... I did not have time to focus my camera as he was going so swiftly.....
John Greves ex Findonian, now
living in Walton on Thames emailed..."Hope the 4x4 driver realises sledges don't have brakes or
reverse gear....
Used to be a hazard for bale sledge-boys on the steeper slopes of the Downs.
Looks if he might have snow chains but no mud flaps or eye protection for the
kids".
It was around the time that I learned that land in Findon described by the vendors as "at Cissbury Ring" was up for sale. This was purported to extend for approximately 132 acres and comprised of Grade 3 arable land and pasture in six well-sized field parcels, all benefiting from stock fencing and water troughs. At first I wondered where exactly this could be. The land was also described as containing a general purpose agricultural steel portal framed building measuring some 10 x 13 meatures, accompanied by a holding yard. This gave the game away and I deduced it must be in the Canada Barn area to the east of Cissbury Ring and the fields were the ones nearby.
The snow obviously took a few days to clear and I subsequent went to look at the fields one morning after a very heavy frost.

Canada Barn (the reason for this strange name I cannot fathom) on the East side of Cissbury Ring.
The above photograph p depicts some of the six fields under the hammer.... I'm not absolutely which they are and can only guess. (Interest has been shown in various Nepcote properties by the Wyatt family of Cissbury....so a move and sell of land is obviously imminent).
The frozen Lychpole dew-pond. wot no skaters?
Suzie and Katie returning down the Prehistoric Track to the car park.
