WHAT A MOST SENSATIONAL OUTING.......

The visiting cars lined the lane and were a sight to behold.    What am I referring to?

The Christmas tree spectacular at St. John the Baptist Church in December 2009........

The array of trees in our ancient church were a picture beyond belief to gladden and cheer everyone's eyes........

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree!

Findon tree most fair and lovely!

The sight of Findon at Christmastide.........Spreads hope and gladness far and wide.

Ex-Findonian Roger Moulds now living in Llandrindod Wells emailed..."Valerie....I thought the trees in the church were absolutely delightful. It brought back memories of past Findon Christmases, big lump in throat (big boys don't cry).

Neil Rogers-Davis in Angmering emailed to say.....  "We went to had a look at the trees in the church on Sunday. What a good show. Won two tombola prizes and had a superb piece of coffee sponge!

Do you know which tree won the popular vote?

It was the first time that we have been in the church for many many years. In fact the last time was probably in 1972 when our older son was baptised there although I think we may have gone to a flower festival a few years’ later. We liked the mixture of pews and chairs and the floor tiles - gave the church a cosy feeling"

The grand total raised for the Church Facilities Fund to equip the building with a much-needed kitchen and toilet .... was a magnificent £1,766.19.

It always makes me smile to think that churches have been standing for hundreds of years with no kitchens or toilets .....and now they are needed.    I understand that years ago in the days of long dresses... chamber pots were brought to services to help the congregation survive the suffering of marathon sermons.  I do not know if this was true or not.

Getting back to the magnificent trees at the church ....unfortunately, I understand that there will not be a Christmas Tree Festival at St. John the Baptist Church in December 2010.
