BIRD RINGING ON CISSBURY — 2007

Here is Cissbury Ring in all its splendour in December 2007.    The view is looking north.   The Neolithic flint mining area is in the centre with the gorse bushes.      Shipdens Holt is the wood at the bottom right (where Katie disappears looking for rabbits).    The South Wood is centre right.           Photograph by David Hogg of Horizon Imaging.

In February 2008, I was delighted to hear from Brian Clay in High Salvington again.....

"Hi Valerie.....Very sorry for the delay on this but have been busy with a lot of end of year paperwork that has to be sent in to the BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) otherwise we will get struck off as ringers!

I’ve attached a Word document which I hope comes through OK. Let me know if you have any problems as I can easily send it in a different format.

I saw a Firecrest last week at the top of the zig-zag by the windmill – almost in my garden!

All the best,  Brian.

 Notes

bulletControls are bird first rung by bird ringers elsewhere in the country but subsequently caught at Cissbury
bulletNew Birds are birds rung for the first time at Cissbury
bulletRetraps are birds ringed at Cissbury and subsequently re-caught there. The same bird may have been re-caught more than once.
bulletTotals are the total number of captures of each species. Thus the total of 4 for Great Spotted Woodpecker involves 3 birds – 1 bird that was ringed in an earlier year, 1 bird ringed for the first time in 2007 and another ringed for the first time in 2007 and re-caught again in 2007.

Thanks so much for the list, Brian..... I just love reading what I have missed seeing flying around the Ring.

I just can't believe the totals sometimes..... for instance, I have not seen a bullfinch on Cissbury in the last 14 years since I've lived here.... I only see LBJs (Little Brown Jobs) that I struggle to identify.
