VILLAGE SNOW 2007

Copyright Valerie Martin 2007

THE FIRST SNOW OF WINTER..... Wednesday 24th January 2007..... I set off on a mission with my camera around Findon at 9 a.m. with my faithful friends, Suzie and Katie....

Early morning and all is quiet in Nepcote (looking south).

Just as peaceful in Nepcote looking north.

The junction of Nepcote and the eastern end of Steep Lane.

Star Mead the Afghan collects snowballs on his feet during his walk.

"I couldn't help it, Mum".

A cheery face on Nepcote Green.

Steep Lane looking west.

Deserted Nepcote Lane heading eastwards out of the village.

Ah, traffic !   Nepcote Lane looking west.  Here we have a bit of barking because squirrels are leaping from branch to branch in the tall trees.

Nepcote Green from Convent Corner.... not sure if that's its correct name.... but that's what I've always called it and that's good enough for me.

Suzie and her sister eventually arrive at Mud Pie Corner (my name for it again) and the Gallops "Off the lead at last, thank goodness".

Sheep in the distance on yonder hillside and Nick Gifford's racehorses on the Gallops.

Wintry scene on the Gallops.

"Brrr... it's a bit cold out here all night, Nick".

Playtime in the snow "Catch me if you can, sister".

"Wot us?   We didn't do anything".

"What shall we do next while she's playing with the camera thingy, sister?"

The Chalk Path looking north.

I wonder who that is striding out in the snow in the distance on Nepcote Green?  Someone with a collie.

Who is that walking down Nepcote Green?

I spy our friends Biddy and Lucy.

Back home passed the Wattle House and the cottages of Nepcote..... (looking west).

PENNY IN ONTARIO EMAILS:  Dear Valerie,   Your winter wonderland tour of Findon today is just magical.   Thanks so much,

TERRY IN CANBERRA SAYS;   Valerie     Beautiful pics around the village and surrounds. Good to see that you are still out and taking pics and and giving us the direction of the shot!

Whilst you have had snow we have had day after day over 30 degrees and night only getting down to 17. I go for a walk at 6:30 in the morning about 20 minutes after the sun has peeped over the hills a short way from here - in shorts and get quite a sweat up after 4 kilometres. Cup of tea and breakfast on the back deck with the paper is a good way to start the day. Have been on holidays most of January but due back on Monday - I have only worn long trousers on about 3 occasions this month.

"Let's play chase" says Katie

ANDREW FROM ONTARIO SAYS: Hello there Valerie.    Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed looking at your recent photos of your snowy morning. Those Nepcote landscapes look perfectly beautiful under that delicate snowfall. I would imagine that the snow melted soon enough but you captured it well in time and secured a classic collection of wintry scenes worthy of a coffee table picture book. Keep up the great photography.

STEVE (not quite sure where from) emails....Really enjoyed the wintry Findon scenes Valerie..thanks very much.
