Cissbury Ring on 30th December 2007.   View looking east towards the City of Brighton...... over the treetops of the South Wood.    The white rectangular scar on the landscape in the distance is the old cement works at Shoreham.

WHO WAS SACRIFICED ON CISSBURY RING?

Copyright Valerie Martin 2006

Who was sacrificed on Cissbury Ring on the night of 15th September 2006 (or was it sunrise next morning)?

Suzie and Katie made this discovery on the heights of the Cissbury hillside..... all of these designs were in close proximity to each other.... are they pagan symbols left behind for us to find?

"Quick, come and look what we've found."

"Don't go, Suzie, we must find out what it means."

Suzie is intrigued by the symbol of a house .... complete with staircase and smoke coming from the chimney.

"Come and look at this, sister.... it's cute".

This one is a bit more gruesome.... an axe, dripping with blood.

"I'm not sure what this represents, Suzie.... any ideas?"

Suzie goes star gazing.

Would anyone like to hazard a guess at this one, too?

What on earth is this supposed to be?   Could be Brian the snail?

Can you shed any light on this arrangement?   A flower with a centre of blackberries?

"What's this one, Katie, come and look, it seems to have scaly spines."

Whoops, girls, it's coming down the bank towards you......

Looks like a crocodile to me.

What group executed all of this intricate work on Cissbury Ring and why?

What interesting pictures.

They should spark some interest on your website.

Lets hope the emails start rolling in soon, I would love to know what it all means.

Who Was Sacrificed on Cissbury Ring

.............The peculiar stone patterns Suzie and Katie found on Cissbury are unlike anything I have seen - except for the star-shaped configuration which resembles a similar phenomenon once found at Chanctonbury.

They are probably pagan symbols of some kind - they could be the work of an imaginative person (or persons) just spontaneously playing about with stones or they could be the result of more serious and organised activities. Perhaps a ritual took place.

There is something a bit spooky and unsettling about them, and maybe that was in the mind (or minds) of the "artists" - to spook whomever discovered them (a purpose which clearly failed with Suzie and Katie). Maybe they knew you were coming and just wanted to get their artwork on your website.

Or there is always the possibility that rabbits are more intelligent than we previously thought.
Keep me updated. If tomorrow you go up there and find not pebbles but huge boulders moved about then there's definitely something weird going on.

By the way I've got another story simmering in the back of my head.

The spooks don't worry us...... good idea about intelligent bunnies though... I have noticed some extra large ones recently bounding around !

It looks like the Brownies or a similar group of children have had fun seeing who could make the best picture using any material found lying around.

Good idea, Pam, but I would mention that the children are back at school and there are no groups wandering around Cissbury in the autumn.

Do you think that axes dripping with blood seem like the teachings of the Brownies ... (I was not a Brownie nor Girl Guide) or are youngsters are even worse than I imagine!

I would mention here, that a couple of years ago I heard of the body of a goat hanging in the bushes on the Ring (bound with orange baler twine).  I do not know anymore as I did not see it myself.
