FINDON IN NOVEMBER

Copyright Valerie Martin 2004

It was a  cheerless, depressing miserable-weather day in Findon, although quite mild and there was no wind.   This gave me an ideal opportunity of capture the atmosphere of a Sussex village in November.   I appreciate that everywhere looks a bit "dead" and there are not many people in the scenes but this is just as I found it at 1 p.m.

Here's Nepcote (looking south)...

......followed by a deserted, dull and dismal Nepcote Green site of the Findon Sheep Fair ...

Looking west down Steep Lane....

This is the Lower Steep Lane where it eventually joins the High Street.

Here is the old Sandena Nursing Home site...

Now resplendent with new houses going up!

Convent Gardens looking north...

Nepcote Lane, looking west.   The colours on the trees have not been so good this year.... must be something to do with the weather.

The traffic piles up in The Square..... looking west.    Grey Point is the large white house on the left.  Straight ahead (cream coloured) is the Gun Inn....

Here's a rather dreary Old Pond Green .... looking west... (in the distance is School Hill).

The site where Albert Short's cattle had a drink at the pond of yesteryear.

Here's the Horsham Road, looking south...

Looking south down the Horsham Road. Here's the Village House on the right...

Straight ahead is Grey Point in The Square.

A rather bleak School Hill looking west.... leading to the A24 and the roundabout at the top.   The Gun is on the left.... the Village House on the right.

The rear of the Gun Inn... looking north along the High Street....

Let's zoom in a bit...

The Village Hall in the High Street.

Obviously a popular place at lunch time.... even in November....

The Findon Manor Hotel in the High Street... once the home of the Findon vicars.

This one is Cross Lane looking north....

The cream painted property is Marigold Cottage.

Finally, Cross Lane looking south.
