MARK PALMER

In April 1987, the head stable lad at Josh Gifford's stables was a former jockey, Mark Palmer aged 26 years. 

He was viciously stabbed in the head, the body and suffered a punctured lung in a robbery outside Aintree racecourse and was very lucky to be alive after such a violent attack.  

This incident happened after he had been to the race course stables to bed down Josh's two first day runners.   He then called into the nearby Sefton Arms public house for a pint.   A minibus service had been laid on to take the stable staff back to their hostel a mile away from the race course but Mark and a colleague unfortunately missed it and decided to walk. 

They were then accosted by two men who asked for a light, then requested change for a £10 note.   Mark got out his wallet and was subsequently attacked and robbed.
