Dew-ponds became redundant as agricultural features when livestock were supplied with water via troughs linked to main water supplies.

The dew-pond to the south-east of Chanctonbury Ring by Alfred Robert Quinton (1853-1934).

The construction of dew-ponds stopped in Findon towards the end of the 19th century.

The maximum life of a dew-pond is believed to be about a hundred years and in the absence of maintenance they are now rapidly vanishing from the Findon landscape under matted undergrowth.
