Years ago there were many dew-ponds dotted over the Findon hills and one of these was at Muntham.

Gone are the days in Findon when heavy horses pulled their wide-wheeled carts around the base of a pond under construction, to puddle it. That was an era when the clay was carted from the Ashurst area and flints were supplied by Short's Farm in Findon.

After many years the clay puddling became cracked or penetrated and the water in a dew-pond soaked away into the surrounding chalk in a matter of hours.
