IDA SANDERSON 17th October 1912 - 14th May 2002. We were all saddened by the news of Ida's death on May 14th in St. Richard's Hospital, Chichester, at the age of 89. Her father, George Winton, ran the family business, Winton and Son, in The Square, having succeeded his father, Ida's grandfather, who used to run the Post Office from the same premises in the earlier years of the last century. Before the war, she was involved in most village activities, notably the Dramatic Club, in the days when funds were being raised to build the Village Hall. Apart from a few years during and shortly after the war, Ida lived in Findon all her life, with her husband, Peter, whom she married in 1942. She followed in her mother's footsteps, joining the Women's Institute as one of the founder members of Findon Downs W.I., later serving as President and Treasurer. After the death of her husband in 1996 she gradually became more and more dependent on others for help. She was indeed blessed with enormous good fortune in her neighbours, without whom her son freely acknowledges that it would have been impossible for her to remain in her own home for as long as she did. She is sadly missed by her son Michael and her nephews and nieces and many lifelong friends in Findon and the rest of the country. ********* I would like to express my gratitude for the many messages of sympathy and support I have received following the death of my mother in May, and to Fr John McCormack for such an uplifting service (despite the technical problem with the music).
