My own impression of the Findon Windmill. |
My search continued into the millennium for an old picture of the Findon Windmill and I was going round in circles. I was hoping someone had at least seen an early nostalgic photograph or sketch of the elusive Findon Windmill in its heyday — or even in a state of dereliction.
It seemed that the Findon Windmill was to go down in history as the only mill that was not photographed.

One morning in February 2005 I slogged up the downland to the old Findon Windmill site...

As we approached the Mill House, I could not believe my eyes..... had I been transported back in time? For clearly the building on the horizon could be the resurrection of the old Findon Windmill above the Findon Gallops....

I looked a bit closer....

No, it was part of a building programme that had been going on for months at the Mill House and was still in progress. It included a glass observation tower situated very near to the original windmill site.
